Strategic Mentorship Support

As a small grassroots project, we are unable to assist every single person who is sentenced to Life in Prison without Parole. There are many factors in the commutation process, many of which are still unknowns. (The Board does not have to give reasons why a person is perceived to have no merit or why they have been denied commutation). This is something we want answers on, and many organizations are fighting for the board to be transparent, but it has not yet happened.
We do know the board wants to see a person with at least 25 years served, people who have done positive things and truly transformed inside. When deciding cases, we know they want to know the person is incredibly remorseful and will never hurt again.
Reentry Ready believes in second chances, we understand underlying factors of what leads to crime and know that in the majority of cases, individuals who have spent 20 or more years incarcerated and worked hard are the least likely to reoffend. We are also aware that many people who enter the system need guidance and support.
Our strategic mentorship program isn't limited. It's small so we can dedicate the attention needed to those most in need, but it is open to incarcerated men and women. Some of the things we will work with individuals on is their own growth.
It all begins with accountability and transparency by the incarcerated person. We are giving them the power to want to change or continue to grow to be an ideal commutation applicant in the future!
The very first step is the incarcerated person completing an application. Being honest about their time inside, what they have done for good and for bad and facing what they have done inside. Not just the # of write-ups but including the worst. We work from there to determine where this individual wants to go and empower them to make choices for the better.
Perhaps a person is doing everything right and has no trouble history. They too can be part of this program to help them continue on the right path.
Those who are part of our strategic mentorship program will be considered for future support in the commutation support process.
